How to use mesh converter in astk?

Hello all

I want to visualize the .mail file so have to convert it to another format. I see there is a mesh converter in astk but when i convert it i get an .export file. I am not sure i am doing it properly. Could anyone help in showing me the procedure of converting a mesh file in other formats (for e.g in .med)? Thanking you in advance.

Cordialement

Ashraf

PS: I have attached the .mail file.

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

Hello,

The attached image shows how to set up a translate job in ASTK.  Then click on Tools -> Mesh translator and an Aster job will be initiated and the translated file be created in the same subdirectory where the original file was (viz. /tmp).  Enjoy...

Hello JMB..

Thanks for your reply. I did as you said but i get a .export file after the conversion as before. An aster job is initiated but  I do not get a .med file. Can you tell me what could be the problem?

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

Hello ashraf,

Copy the fdlv111a.mail to /tmp

In ASTK try the following steps:
Use the /tmp directory for "Base path"
Put just one entry for the "fdlv111a.mail" file in the job window (Type = mail; LOGICAL_UNIT[LU] = 20; D[data] selected).
Click in the field ("fdlv111a.mail") then click on Tools -> Mesh converter (with input mesh = aster; output mesh = med AND "mesh information (homard required)" and other options NOT selected)

It works for me.  If it does not for you, perhaps somebody else more knowledgeable about the inner workings can help you better.

Regards,
JMB

PS: The converted med file is attached in case that helps you for an immediate need.

Indeed, JMB365, this is the easyest way of converting a mesh with Code_Aster.

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

Hello all,

I followed the steps from JMB but do not get .med file. Only _mesh.export is generated. It seems the job does not finish since the ASJOB window shows the status of PEND. The ASTK window is attached below, where I only put the first entry for the type mail and the second entry is from ASTK run. Does any one know why?

Thank you in advance,

Cindy

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

hello

on your astk pics
the destination file "fdlv11a.mail.med" is given the same LU = 20 as the source file "fdlv11a.mail"
and it is ticked "D" for data
no wonder it does not work
give another LU lets say 21 and tick R and untick D
it might work

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

Hello jean,

Thank you for taking the question.

I only put the first entry there. The second entry of Type mmed is generated by ASTK after I choose Tools --> mesh converter --> OK on MESHTOOL windows. aster is chosen for Input mesh Format, /tmp/fdlv11a.mail.med for Result mesh, and med for its Format, and all the items under Options are unchecked on MESHTOOL windows.

On MESHTOOL windows I do not see any place where one can change LU to 21 and check R instead of D for the med file. However, on ASTK windows I did change LU to 21, check R and uncheck D for type mmed. (Please see the attachment). Then I choose Tools --> mesh converter --> OK. Again only _mesh.export file is generated. Why ASJOB is still PEND and med file is not generated?

Thank you so much,

Cindy

you may also read this
http://www.code-aster.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?id=14436

and the sample .comm file will do the job

DEBUT();
mail=LIRE_MAILLAGE( UNITE=20,FORMAT='ASTER',);
IMPR_RESU(FORMAT='MED', UNITE=21, RESU=_F(MAILLAGE=mail,),);
FIN()

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

Dear jeanpierreaubry

Thank you for the link to JMB's video. I followed the steps there exactly, but ASTK does not work.

Then I tried your .comm file and it works! The ASTK screen is attached, which I hope will help other users.

I have no idea why [ ASTK Tools --> mesh converter ] does not work, but just notice the following error message when ASTK is launched. Maybe some one knows why. Nevertheless, ASTK works with the .comm file.

<INFO> Optional module not found : tkpng
       searched in /usr/lib64/aster/lib/astk/not_defined
<INFO> ASTK version 1.8.4

Thank you for the link to your essay. At first glance it is a nice work to help users, and I will look at it later.

Merci!

Cindy

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

if you post the screen dumps i will tell you (hopefully) how to run the mesh converter directly from ASTK
this would also solve some other problems occuring with STANLEY and other things

Dear Jean,

Please see the attachment for the screen dumps, where only real names are altered. Any idea what may be wrong? Thank you.

Merci.

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

hello

from the first screen «Configuration - Servers» it seems you installed Code_aster in /usr/lib/64 if yes this is most unsual and probably very dangereous

second screen «Configuration - Network» should have «Forced DISPLAY variable» set as shown in the example, then «Interactive follow-up», «STANLEY» and some others will work correctly

Re: How to use mesh converter in astk?

Hello jeanpierreaubry,

Tools --> Mesh converter in ATSK works after the fix at your suggestion. The .med file is generated even if the entry of the type mmed as created by ASTK automatically has 20 for LU and D checked, rather than 21 and R, respectively.

I wish that I could thank you in person.

Merci!

Cindy
