Hello from the UK

Hello fellow students and experts

My name is Richard and I have spent most of my engineering education and career avoiding the finite element method, I was foolish enough to think that numerical simulation was for those that can't do mathematics! Now I find myself humbly starting from the beginning and I have a very tall mountain to climb.

My interests are traditionally in the strength of materials and structural dynamics, although it has been a long time since I have done any of this! I run a small structural engineering consultancy doing relatively simple steel, masonry and timber structural engineering. Recently I have been doing more complex analyses of localised effects and I need to get more certainty over my results. So I have cleared all my non work interests and I spend my weekends learning Salome Meca.
